Getting about in Orkney
It is worth noting that although public transport on the island is rather limited the X1 service, which runs between Stromness and Kirkwall and on to St Margaret’s Hope, does operate regularly throughout the day and would allow travel to the conference venue, opening up the scope for accommodation beyond the confines of Kirkwall. Here are links to the timetable from Stromness – Kirkwall – St Margaret’s Hope, and St Margaret’s Hope – Kirkwall – Stromness.
For those considering this option but wishing to attend the conference dinner, it is worth noting that there is a late night bus service to Stromness from Kirkwall, which connects with the Northlink Ferry service - this is the X10 Hatson Ferry Service timetable.
Cycle hire, including electric bikes, is available from www.cycleorkney.com
